The Off Broadway Players will be holding open auditions for the play Blasted, by British playwright Sarah Kane, on Sunday, December 8th at 2:00 pm at Swirsky's on Broadway.

Blasted is the community theatre group's entry into the 2014 Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Drama Festival to be happening at the Stephenville Arts and Culture Centre in April.

Blasted tells the story of tabloid journalist, Ian, and his ex-lover Cate, who spend a night inside a posh hotel room while a war rages outside. Ian uses Cate in every way imaginable until she disappears and a Soldier forces his way into the room.

The play deals with themes of sex, violence, racism, misogyny and homophobia, to name just a few. Blasted is disturbingly graphic - both verbally and visually. It is an adult-rated show and certainly not for the faint of heart.

"This is going to be a very unique experience for Corner Brook and for the Provincial Drama Festival. It is a show that will challenge actors, technicians and theatre-goers alike," says director Jordan Stringer. "To pull this off, we need three very versatile and committed actors. We also need the right people on crew who can craft with the world of this play with fine precision. I know we have that talent in Corner Brook."

For those looking to audition, there is no need to prepare anything in advance. "Just show up with a very open mind and be willing to do some cold readings," says Stringer.

Stringer would also like to remind anyone interested in joining the Off-Broadway Players that they should come out. "Auditions are a great time to pop out and meet people and see how you can get involved," says the director.

Anyone who would like further information or would like to set up and alternate date and time to audition can contact Stringer by emailing jordankeithstringer@hotmail.com or by calling 638-2694.
