The Off-Broadway Players have chosen their show for the 2009 Provincial Drama Festival, Patrick Marber's comedic drama, Closer.

Closer will be directed by Stephen Perchard, who has directed the past Off-Broadway productions of Dracula, The Rocky Horror Show, and their 2006 festival entry, 1949.

"Closer is a great script that takes a very honest and biting look at love, lust, and relationships," says Perchard, who is also the president of the Off-Broadway Players.

"It involves four characters whose lives become intertwined over a four and a half year period and the relationships that develop between them.""The play has moments that are funny, touching, shocking, and potentially disturbing. It's definitely not a family show, but it's a great night of cutting-edge theatre that I think Corner Brook audiences are hungry for."

Auditions for Closer will be taking place on Saturday, November 29th in room AS378 of Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. Off-Broadway will be looking for a cast of four actors: two males and two females, ranging in age from their mid-twenties to late-thirties. The troupe is also looking for a crew of six or so people who are able to travel to Labrador over the Easter break.

"The show definitely has some technical challenges, so it's important for us to put a good crew together in order make sure the best product hits the stage," says Perchard.

Anyone looking to audition or to work in the crew are asked to come out to auditions. There is no need to prepare anything. Auditions will be informal, and all interested actors will get the chance to read for multiple parts during the audition process.

Closer will be performed in Corner Brook in mid March, and will then travel to Labrador West to participate in the Provincial Drama Festival, being hosted this year by the Carol Players of Labrador West.

Anyone interested in auditioning but unavailable on Saturday the 29th, can contact Perchard at 632.2146 or by e-mail at steveperchard@yahoo.ca in order to arrange an alternate time.
